NewsLeecher 8.0 Beta 3
#: We have recently moved the SuperSearch service to newer,
more powerful, servers and also optimized a lot of the core
code in the SuperSearch backend. Due to this, we have been able
to merge the two SuperSearch search categories ("General" and
"Erotica") so *all contents* is searched, no matter what
search category you have chosen. So no need to select
categories anymore.
Not only does this makes it easier and faster to use
SuperSearch, but it will also return more results, since the
earlier auto-categorization was not 100% precise and sometimes
placed articles into the wrong search categories.
We have also removed the retention limit for indexed image and
audio groups. So search retention is equal for all indexed
Usenet groups (12500+ groups) now.
Speaking of retention. The current SuperSearch retention is
around 4 years. In the near(ish) future, we will be able to
bump the retention up 10 years for *all* groups.
#: Note that this release changes the way that download-/unpack-
folders for filesets are handled. It's quite a large change,
so it is recommended to backup NewsLeecher settings and empty
the download queue and "unpacker" queue inside NewsLeecher,
before installing.
+: -- * LARGER CHANGE * ------------------------------------------
The, rather counterintuitive, "Destination Folders" feature,
has been replaced by a much simpler feature for specifying
which folders that filesets should be downloaded and unpacked
to. The new feature can be accessed by clicking the "Folders"
icon on the main toolbar or from the settings dialog.
+: Added a new feature to the SuperSearch service, that will allow
one to get a last of all new Usenet postings that have been
"unscrambled" by the SuperSearch backend within the list 0-24
hours time. The feature can be accessed by clicking the "New24"
button on the SuperSearch toolbar.
+: Added a new feature to the SuperSearch service, that will allow
one to get a list of *ALL* contents indexed by SuperSearch
within the last 0-6 hours time. The feature can be accessed by
clicking the "Raw06" button on the SuperSearch toolbar.
*: -- * LARGER CHANGE * ------------------------------------------
Browsing / updating Usenet groups is now substantially faster
with many groups. Partly because NewsLeecher will now actively
filter out unusable "garbled" Usenet postings, when fetching
group headers. And partly due to new thread-optimized code.
We are not completely done optimizing yet, though. We'll
continue to optimize performance further in future releases.
NOTE: It is recommended to wipe Usenet group headers, before
updating Usenet groups for the first time, after upgrading to
NewsLeecher V8.0 Beta 3.
*: The SuperSearch "Search Results"-filter input control has been
merged with the standard SuperSearch "Search Query" input
control. Also the checkbox to switch the "Search Result"-filter
on/off, has been removed. The filter is always active now.
*: The SuperSearch toolbar has been simplied a lot, for easier
usage.
*: Lots of visual changes. Much simplified main toolbar.
"Queue"-tab has been renamed to "Download"-tab. Changed splash
screen graphics a bit, etc.
!: *Lots* of smaller bugfixes.
