Cannot use Supersearch; time-out?

Post by Bert-Jan55 »

I'm trying to use Supersearch, but keep ketting time-outs. I've checked the log file. SS seems to be initializing ok:

09:25:55 SuperSearch has successfully initialized ...
09:25:55 * SuperSearch Conn. Info: Gen.IP="136.243.76.160" :: Ero.IP="136.243.76.160" :: Ports="443", "443" :: Retention="3250".

But when I do a test-search on something that should definitivly get some results; I get:

09:34:29 SuperSearching... hang on ...
09:34:29 * Max Days to Search : 250
09:34:29 * Search For : game of thrones
09:34:50 * SS Connect Port : 443
09:34:50 * SS Connect IP : 136.243.76.160
09:34:50 * SS Connect Error : Connection timed out

I'm on Windows 10. Internet works fine. NL is registered (Client Plus account) Firewall disabled.
Is SS down? Should I check something else?

Sadly you can't see when the admin was last on line, either they see it and ignore it, or they have other things to do rather than worry about their gold mine. ;)

It's only a gold mine until it isn't any more. We collectively can influence that by moving on.

Anyone know of another usenet provider who has a search tool with de-obfuscation? That's the real draw here, no need for a separate indexer/nzb provider.

Any ideas on that?

I finally moved away from NL and I too was looking for something that was combined but ended up with a little different setup. I was able to get the $1.67 per month (lifetime) usenet access deal from Newshosting + $1 a month NZBGeek. Combine that with the free SABNZB and you are golden for WAY less money per month. Newshosting has a free newreader that I read can be integrated into NZBGeek searches, but I haven't figured it out. Now, I log into NZBGeek, do my searches, download my NZBs directly to SABNZB and it takes care of the rest for me. I kept NL active during my cross-over time and did comparisons between NZBGeek and SS. Results, tons more was found using NZBGeek than SS.

Check the /r/Usenet for deals - they are posted all the time.

I use SABnzb daily, all you need are the nzb's and it's way more simple, easy to use, unpacks automatically etc.
Just need a newsreader to de-obfuscate stuff and that would be me sorted.
I have been using NewsLeecher from day one, but I get the feeling the creator[s] have moved on or just got fed up of it all together.
Also why people have to obfuscate stuff is beyond me, unless it's supposed to keep it private for small groups.

obfuscation of binary posts (audio/video/software) is aimed at keeping those posts on the servers longer by making it difficult for the legitimate owners of the Intellectual Property rights of those binaries from determining that their property has been illegally loaded on a server, and then taking actions to remove or disrupt those posts.

Doesn't seem to work very well from what I've seen taken down. ;)

Depends on the owner and how aggressively the protect their intellectual property. Viacom/CBS, HBO, & Disney are very aggressive about it, others not so much.
