Problem with par2 recovery

Post by Blakeyrat » Mon Feb 06, 2017 5:00 am

NL 7 Final

There is a problem with the built-in par2 recovery function.

Sometimes when I download a large multi-part file with some incomplete parts, NL can't repair it and says I need more blocks.

But I can run an external par2 program (MultiPar https://multipar.eu/ ) and it will repair the files just fine.

Solution is to right click on the fileset (in NL extract screen) and select "Detect Renamed". It'll then find and rename the files and carry on as normal. Don't know if there's a setting to automatically get it to detect renamed
is there an Option to do so ???

According to changelog for 7.0 Beta 1 auto-detecting renamed files was added. that doesn't seem to work .

Any Workaround ????

I think it only supports utr-8 which is default.

There was an option to choose whether Newsleecher should detect misnamed PAR files or not up to v7 Beta 12. It was removed in Beta 13 and supposedly be replaced with an updated auto detection routine which should be faster/better. It may be faster, but the auto detection has been broken since beta 13 and it's still broken in the final v7. No workaround except fixing each set one by one which is a royal PITA...

I've made a file set that should pinpoint the broken auto detection of misnamed files.

Search for "NL-Misnamed-RnE" in Supersearch and it will pop up in the 'alt.binaries.test' group. Please try to download it with any version from v7 Beta 13 to v7 Final and it should get stuck in RnE and all the rar files are flagged as missing.

This issue should really be fixed in a v7 patch. I'd gladly revert to Beta 12 but then I'll lose track of all my downloaded files since the downloaded.dat format was changed in beta 13 as well. Please have a closer look at it....
