Re: I keep getting the following error...

Since you've had the same error in v7, this answer may not apply to you, but a similar error was introduced in nl80004.ufr3 (12/09/2019) and continued in all later official and unofficial versions. The problem is that NL tried to create a directory named after the entire subject line, which sometime...

Re: Issue with leecher & nzbs

Don't replace v7 with the beta, install the beta in a separate directory. You can only run one at a time but they can use the same data files. Each has some advantages and disadvantages over the other. I haven't used NZBs lately so don't know if the latest beta can deal with them better than 7. I su...

Re: How do you limit to 50 to 75% of bandwidth ofn Newsleecher 8

I've never used the Speed Scheduler so I don't know if it works. I set my Internet Max Speed a little higher than it really is so that I could always get the maximum when I wanted it. If I want to reduce that (e.g. when also streaming online video) the easiest way is to drag down the speed setting t...

Re: AT which version did Newsleecher becomes a subscription service

I have just try Newsleecher 8, it does save the files in the proper file name. However, can anyone tell me why it also download all the PAR2 files? I thought in the older ver., the default is it does NOT automatically download the PAR2 files. Unless there is some sort of setting of the new software...

Re: AT which version did Newsleecher becomes a subscription service

1 quick question in case anyone can help: Would there be some sort of conflict if I install 2 different version of newsleecher on my PC? Say an older version along w/ Ver 8 Beta? No conflict in installing as many versions as you want, in separate directories, at least back to V7 and maybe earlier. ...

Re: AT which version did Newsleecher becomes a subscription service

I am still using ver. 3.8, 1) could someone tells me whether it's true that newsleecher has become a monthly subscription service? 2) also, I paid an annual fee to my Usenet subscription at XSusenet.com, do I qualify to get the latest ver. 7 or 8 for free? Starting with ver. 7 the program itself is...

Re: Beta V8 Count Button

It's still there. It just has an icon instead of a name: looks like an eye and a "#." But I recommend having V7 and however many V8 Beta versions you want installed in separate directories. 7 and 8 have their own advantages and shortcomings. I usually use V8B3 but go back to V7 when I want to downlo...

Re: Correct syntax for searching for poster?

Precede the poster's name (or partial name) with "Poster:" (without the quotes). If you don't find any posts, maybe there aren't any at least in the SuperSearch index. To prove it works, use it for a poster's name you know exists. Example: Poster:(SP)

Re: Download Speed

Also, how many bots are you using? In NL 7.0 Final, Manager tab, Edit Server, Bots. One bot would be slow. More would be faster, up to a point. The ideal number depends on many factors so just try different numbers to see what's best. Around 10 works for me. The bit rate reported by NewsLeecher will...

Re: What is the difference between WPA wpa2 and WEP? What is the best encryption to use in WIFI?

All of those have some security issues. WPA2 is the best of them and commonly available. WPA3 is better yet but not supported everywhere. WEP is worthless. Don't use it.

Here's one link that discusses WPA3 and earlier versions: What Is WPA3, and When Will I Get It On My Wi-Fi?

Re: Downloaded Files with no extension?

If you have a related par2 file, QuickPar might be able to recognize and rename them. NL should have a similar ability (V7: Repair, V8: Auto Repair) but it doesn't work very reliably.

Re: Graph and download bots no longer showing

I was able to duplicate the problem in V8 but not undo it there. However, I have V7 installed in a separate directory but using the same data and temp directories. I was able to fix it there, which also fixed it in V8. In V8, if you drag the size of the graph and bot list down to nothing, then try t...

Bacnek Engine?

SuperSearch has been down for some time, due to a bug in the bacnek engine.
I (kind of) understand what a backend engine is, but what is a bacnek engine? #-o

Re: Has the V8 beta died?

AmigaMan, You can use as many versions of NewsLeecher (V4 and later) as you want. Don't uninstall the old one or install the new one over the old. Install it in another directory. You can only run one at a time but you can close one and run another. I currently have V7 and 10 V8 betas installed. The...
