shouldn't we wait for 2.0 to go final first?
afaik supersearch is still down at the moment, i don't think they'll release 2.5 before that's sorted out |

off-subject what is the meaning of "afaik".
Some of these "words" are often used on usenet based fora. Is there a list or website with a list on it with the meanings of these words.

# Automatic RAR / PAR2 handling and extraction
May i add something here.
Rar handeling is nice BUT after I dloaded 3 files (quick with 8mbit). I dont want it to also extract file2 and file 3 while it isnt finished FIRST with extracting file 1. Especialy while also maybe dloading something else (file 4 and 5 )
Have you ever heard what happens with your HD and systemperformance if you computer reads and writes 2 or 3 things at once!! In the end it took 15 times as long if you started the tasks when the last task ends.
Par handeling also nice BUT only if it starts after the dload is complete. I dont want it to rebuild the last 3 files becuase of the already dloaded pars whle it is already dloading it.
And no Parring while Rarring and vice versa please.
Just my 2 cents |

i think par2 handling means you put the par2 files in the queue in paused state, and when all related rar (or whatever) files are downloaded from the queue, it downloads the par2 blocks it needs. so this wouldn't be a problem.
i agree with the rest of you post though |

Couple things that I would like to see:
1. Image viewer. Similar to Xnews.
2. Ability to schedule header downloads. I believe that this can be a very powerful feature with many options.
3. Work with .par2 files and .rar, .r01, etc.
Thanks, th3gh05t _________________ blah blah blah |

There will be a header dl scheduler in v2.5.
If you have any examples of good schedulers (layout, functionality, etc) that I could use for inspiration when building the NL header dl scheduler, pls let me know. |

Hi, here a few suggestions, i would like to see.
1. New option: After startup -> Focus on Tab X,
The first thing i do after opening Newsleecher. Is go to tab "servers",
then doubleclicking "update group" to retreive new headers for all
groups. But i have to select the first "tab" first. An option wich tab
has the focus after startup would be handy.
2. New option : Retreive new headers from all the newsgroups i watch,
after i startup NL. So i dont have to doubleclick on "update group"
3. New option : checkbox with jpg filtering on/of (is against spam)
In some groups you need to see a jpg's once in a while for example (a
preview.jpg or cover.jpg from a dvd), but in most groups jpgs are 99% of
the spam. I would be great to filter jpg's out via a checkbox, put it
after checkboxes "binaries"and "non binaries". The inbuild "non binarie"
filters is nice, but not good enough for the job. Some jpgs are 300kb in
size so they pass the < 10k size filter. Also if a closing part from a
util/ game/dvd would be smaller then 300kb and only 1 part, i would
filtered out beause NL thinks it is not a binarie.
With a checkbox checked i can see quickly or there was a preview jpg
available, and with uncheck all jpgs are gone. And people who would like
to see jpgs in a group with autopictures have no trouble either
So a extra checkbox to hide jpgs would be a great addition imho

while rar implementation should possible at present, par(2) implementation isn't. peter b clements (the guy who made quickpar) still has to release the par.dll. this most likely won't happen for a few months as par3 will be finished and released first
and as par and rar handling should probably go together, rar support probably won't be implemented without par(2/3) support _________________ Forum's Grammar Nazi:

It might be better to just start up the program the way it was left when it quit last. Everything else is saved -- window sizes & positions, active panes and so on.
For my 2¢ worth, I'd love a way to set up NewsLeecher to intercept news: URLs (links). My machine insists on opening Outlook Express for them. |

doesn't this happen already, if you shutdown newsleecher with the log screen open, it opens with the log screen (i think) _________________ Forum's Grammar Nazi:
