I was so excited when I seen beta 14 and like some of the new features being added  (Expecially the download progress in the tray icon)
To the point. Garbage collection still seems to have its foot in the door. Here are my complete logs of fresh install of beta 14, and the 3 (it think only 3) garbage collects that It did resulting in 0 files remaining the the group it cleaned.
The only groups not affected after loading and unloading the groups about ... 100 times was a group that had 128 headers and a group that had 620 headers

what crashes? you mean you're still losing headers? btw i did some limited testing and it hasn't lost a single header yet (a.b.dvdr). will keep fingers crossed ...
P.S.
there's a sticky about this bug at the very top.. it would probably be better if we post all info there. |

i haven't had the time to see if it actually deletes header, but the application crashes with the well known crash message. if i tried to update the headers for another group, it even downloads using 2 connection per server (or at least 2 bots are showing the identical task)...
PLEASE just give us the garbage cleaner DISABLE option!

It seems like NL loads the 'a.b.m.smallville' group *before* it has saved the 'a.b.smallville' group. That's the reason for the header screwup.
I tried to load/save the exact same groups as you did (even on 3 different computers), but I'm still unable to reproduce the prob. Maybe it has something to do with the way you navigate the groups. Do you change newsgroups by using the 'Active Group' pulldown-box, or by using the group manager? And if you use the group manager, do you doubleclick the newsgroup to want to activate, or do you check the checkbox next to the groupname?

I think you are right Spiral. I have the same experiences when using the pulldown box it usally errors. When i use the group manager it works better. Hope this helps you solve the bug |

Terrestrial (and other users infested with the garbage-cleaning bug),
If you have the time, can you send me a copy/paste of the log next time the bug happens for you? Just to the forum or to me personally @ spiril@newsleecher.com.
I need as many garbage-cleaning-bug logs as possible from users so I can find a pattern to why this killer bug continues to popup!
Just if you got the time of course!

The way I updated headers was right click the group in the usenet manager (I think its still called that in b14) and select "Update Group (new)"
Then after I that exactly to several groups I begin to open them randomly by double clicking on each group.
