No kidding! I loved the separation of the categories. Also, I noticed just before the new beta version was released, if you set a date cut-off for audio searches, it would return all records regardless. Searching for an album that's a week old and getting 80 days worth of records. Fun!
Please bring back the audio button!!! |

For me, it's a good thing.
When I search audio files, I'm always searching BOTH general category and audio category.
Now I can do only one search. (And the SS is 15000 result since some month, so it's cool)
Thank you
(maybe an user option to choose wich category is merging should be better ?) _________________ I'm French, so excuse me for my English... |

| Probably the ideal UI would be checkboxes for areas to search. That way you could include or exclude all areas, or just one. However, if they're all eventually going to merge (to avoid a need for arbitrary decisions on what should be included in one category over the other) it does use that powerful Boolean style search. |

While I like the idea of General and Audio being combined (in theory, at least)... um, it seems that either some audio groups were left out when the two were merged, or it's now semi-broken.
Example: when I search on "boingo", I get zero results... yet I know for a fact at least one album is posted, and it's well within the 80 days I have SuperSearch set for.
Thoughts? Comments? |

| I for one will not be renewing my SS account unless there is an audio option. |

Ya should've read the previous posts (in this thread - page 1) about the merging of the db's.
I have to say I was disappointed.. I had to reinstall beta2 so i could get the full search back.
I personally think that, considering, the amount of mp3 files there are, searching will take so much longer...and will go over the limit more often.
This was an unnecessary "merge".. a pure waste of time. |

The more I think about it, merging general and audio is actually a downgrade, even if it did work correctly. Having to sort through 80 days' worth of extraneous results is tedious.
Please don't tell me to just filter on .mp3... that isn't terribly useful when I'm searching for the various lossless formats as well.
Back to beta 2 I go, for now. Please fix this in beta 4. Thanks! |

Personally I really prefer the merged categories ( surprise ). If I use just a couple of search keywords, I get a rather on-topic result set to browse through. Just like when I use Google.
I'll let the merged categories run for some time now, and put up a user-poll later, to decide how to perform the searches in future versions of SuperSearch. _________________

| Fair enough, but please be sure to note that SuperSearch doesn't return all the results it should in beta 3. (see earlier replies in this thread) |

yea what is this crap..how can you call it a new "improvement" when it returns *less* results? this was a horrible design decision, for it decreases the programs functionality. for example: I can search for some music on the "new" beta 3 on the general category, and get nothing..then i hop on beta 2 and search using the audio category, and wow, results!...the audio category needs to be put back..i certainly will not renew my subscription if these remain merged.
now i've noticed that even when i use the "old" beta 2 and the audio search, it seems that all the results are 15 days old or more...no results are returned that were posted within the last two weeks...this is not what i paid for!! i'm very disapointed with the changes! |

If you use beta 2 or a prior version, you still get exactly what you paid for. Try to search the 'General' category instead of the 'Audio' and you should find all the audio postings newer than the 15 days. Older audio postings can still be found, using the 'audio' category.
When the general category has full retention for the audio postings, you will be able to find *all* audio postings in that category. It just takes some time to catch-up on the group. _________________

There should be a Poll about this .
Or why dont you just offer a individual Search we can decide our own
what we prefer?
Us Users should decide what we like.
The New Beta is a downgrade in my opinion too.
Please implent a menue checkbox ( combine both searches music and general and " leave it as it is separated ") to let us wether join the two search engines or leave it wonderful as it was.
Then everyone will be happy.
You say to your customers "if you still use beta 2 you get what you paid for"
I say:
US paid also for improvements and bugfixes we havent even explored testing it or do you want to send us individual fixes for each Beta in future only because we cant no longer use our Newsleecher functions we liked cuze you change it from every Beta on ? |

Polls should go up before these major changes are made.
I hate getting mp3s in my general search now. considering all the crap that gets posted already, I don't need mp3s clogging up more results.
Seriously, what happened to polling the users? Listening to feedback? |

The grouping feature is really nothing more than a pre-defined group: filter. That is, the Audio category simply provides a convenient way of only searching some groups.
The ideal solution, which would also accomodate all concerns raised here, would be to allow users to define their own categories, by selecting a number of groups and giving them a label (a category name), then have this name be available on the super search screen.
This would, for instance, allow me to remove the korea groups from the General category, and overall be an awesome improvement over the current predefined categories.
I'd also like to be able to perform more advanced searches (like, specifying -19## to exclude any 20th century year). Perhaps it's time to provide a regular expression based search mode?
Otherwise, keep up the good work! |
