| Yes, I have Norton Antivirus, I do not use a router. I've succeeded in making a connection but it is just by trying many times. I do not know why this is necessary. anyone does? |

Please enable detailed logging within NL and then post a small section of it here for us to look it so we can try to help you. What about the other questions I asked? Do you have a firewall?

mcpolle, have you tried re-entering all your server information again, including your username and password?

Try another program like Outlook Express and see if you can connect with it instead.

mcpolle -
It seems to me that NL is unable to communicate with the newsserver. Try disabling your firewall and see if this improves.
Is there a router involved? Also, which av are you using?

Have sorted the problem, it would not recognise the server name, so put the IP adress in, and hey presto.
Thx for the help guys, might be worth noting for others that may have a problem connecting

It is possible you had a "space" after the FQDN for your server when you were putting it in. Were you cutting/pasting the server information from somewhere or typing it in manually?

Tried both, I cut and pasted the first time, when that did not work, typed it in manually.
But as said "pinged" the server to get the IP adress, and that worked fine.

Sounds like a routing issue. You might want to check your router if you have one and try flushing your DNS cache. Check your HOSTS file too and see if there's an entry for your newserver.

Hi,
I am getting the message "Unable to Authenticate" and have tried everything u said to do. I am using Mcafee Antivirus and i have zonealarm firewall but do not know how to open ports. I am not using a firewall. I was using it just today, and i logged off for a bit then went back on and i wasn't allowed to. Also when it was working for me, i was only d/l stuff at 10kb/s or lower. is there a reason for this??? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance |

Check with your news provider and see if they are having issues. If it was working before and not now, that is likely a problem on their end.
As far as downloading at 10k/sec, how many connections have you configured NL to use and how fast is your internet connection?

Techfuzz meant, how many connections have you configured in Newsleecher for your newsserver, if the answer is still one, try configuring more connections for your server in the server setup. 3 or 4 connections are the usual maxima. _________________ Grtz RD
