Repair & Extract Stuck on Initializing...

Postby jaddington » Tue Jul 05, 2011 4:02 am

In the last few weeks my extracts have started getting stuck. The first one starts to Initialize and then freezes. I get the following in the log with the exception repeating for hours and then crashing.

After a few shut downs I then get an error on opening and have to clear out the download folder in order for it to restart.

I am able to manually extract the files but that isn't much fun.

The same thing happens if I try dragging a PAR2 onto the window. I am using v5.0 beta 6 and had been for a long time. I have recently rebuilt my Win7 x64 from scratch and I'm not sure if it has worked since then.

Only real difference is I installed a larger SSD and so I'm dl/extracting on the SSD vs. the SATA drive.

Any help appreciated - I have tried the F12 reset config files and tried to re-install 3 times.

thanks

jack

Usually this is what I have to do.

1) Stop Repair & Extract.
2) Delete the bad PAR entry from the R&E window.
3) Use an external PAR program to check and/or repair the download (such as MultiPar - available for W7x64 - or QuickPar - only 32-bit but I think it's more robust).
4) Extract the download manually (using WinRAR, WinZip, 7-Zip, etc).
5) Back in NewsLeecher, re-start R&E and remove any paused entries related to the download from the queue.

Essentially, when something gets suck on initializing I haven't found any way to make NewsLeecher process that download, even if I clear everything out in R&E and try downloading the PAR again. I suspect there might be some sort of cache corruption associated with the filename, or something about the PAR or RARs it just doesn't like.

It only happens every couple of weeks for me, though, so it's no big deal, and free tools are available to get around it.

Have you tried uninstalling, deleting EVERYTHING in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\NewsLeecher" and "C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\NewsLeecher" directories (caution - this will wipe out your accounts, download history, queue, settings, etc.), and then re-installing?

This also just started happening to me yesterday (23-Jul-2011).

Up to yesterday, Repair & Extract worked fine on everything I downloaded. Then yesterday afternoon (Chicago time) the following started happening:

- On the Queue tab if a post had some RAR files that needed repair, NL would not automatically unpause and download the PAR files. (This is probably due to the next issue.)

- On the Repair/Extract tab, the post shows the files with the following information:
... Size Act. = <the correct info for the size>
... Size Exp. = <blank>
... Blocks column = ?? of ??
... Status column = Unknown

- On the News :: Log tab, it shows the same basic information as described by the original poster. The ThreadPR Error is a little different:
8:08:26 AM ThreadPR Error(121): Access violation at address 00802842 in module 'newsLeecher.exe'. Read of address 00000000

This happens for EVERY post loaded into the download queue.

I reviewed the following thread
http://www.newsleecher.com/forum/viewto ... ht=extract

That seems to indicate that the error is due to the hard drive being close to filled up. However, on my hard drive, it shows for the drive used for downloading:
Used space = 389 Gb
Free space = 297 Gb
Capacity = 686 Gb

And for the drive I am extracting to:
Used space = 578 Gb
Free space = 353 Gb
Capacity = 931 Gb

So I don't think this is due to the space available on the hard drive.

NOTE
I have made NO changes to my computer. It was literally working one minute and not the next.

Any help?

Not that it helps you but that jives with exactly what I was seeing. I was using an SSD drive which had 30+GB free most of the time. It wouldn't have been unconceivable that I ran out of space but that shouldn't matter.

Nothing I did worked except for rolling back to v4. I wonder if a windows patch or a virus update did something. Maybe the embedded dll is an issue.
