Newsleecher V4.0 B14 - won't load

Post by nl_bwlonsdale » Thu Feb 25, 2010 3:41 pm

Windows 7 x64 / 8GB RAM / Q6600 CPU

Installed on top of V4.0 B13, get the following error when trying to load NL:

The application failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Uninstalled, cleared roaming profile, same thing.

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\NewsLeecher\newsLeecher.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files (x86)\NewsLeecher\newsLeecher.exe" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax.

Eset found Trojan:

02/25/10 9:48:33 AM Document protection file http://www.newsleecher.com/nl_setup_beta.exe a variant of Win32/TrojanDownloader.FakeAlert.FF trojan

Don't know whether this is connected or not - probably a false indication.

To be sure you're not getting a webbrowser cached version, you can download it from http://www.newsleecher.com/old/nl_setup_40014.exe
OK - Dnld from link provided and installed ok, but still got trojan detection.
