NL crashes on exit if logfile too big

Post by Kaolinite » Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:56 pm

Bug Description:
Whenever I close down Newsleecher Windows reports the usual "The application has encountered an error and needs to close"-Exception.

Propable Cause:
I have set NL to keep the logfile even after restarts. Since there seems to be no internal "maximum size" for the logfile, over time it grew to be around 101 MB.

It seems that the size of the logfile causes NL to crash when shutting down (while flushing the log contents to the disk?), as the crashing stopped as soon as I deleted the old log and allowed NL to start off fresh.

Suggested Resolutions:
- (suprise!) Check what causes the actual crash and fix the problem
- Implement an internal hard limit for log file sizes that causes the file to be cleared
- If the above solution is not available: Notify the user if the log file grows too big (>5-10 MB?)

Environment Details:
Version: 3.9 Beta 11
Operating System w/ Service Pack Version: Windows XP SP2 (December 2007 Patches)
Installation Method: Upgrade
Type of Installation: Beta
Number of Servers: 1
List your provider(s):
List of antivirus/firewall software installed: None (Router in place)
Connections per server: 8
Server priority: 01

Additional Information:
Windows Exception Code: 0xc0000005
Log file size: ca. 101 MB
