|
|
I will be downloading something and itwill work fine for a while then i get an error message that says "queue has been paused because articles are beign downloaded faster then they can be written to the disk" at this point the whole computer stops responding and has to be hard reset. the computer will run for days on end if i dont use newsleecher or if i just use it to download a few things at a time, but whenever doing any decent size queue this happens.
specs:
vista 64bit OS
Giganews is my provider
Things ive tried:
Extensivly tested the hdd, and it is a brand new drive. WD velociraptor if it matters.
ive reinstalled newsleecher, set it to run in windows xp sp2 compatibility mode.
UAC is disabled.
i thought it may be the repair and extract part, disabled that, same problem.
im out of ideas! any help is appreciated |

Some users have encountered permission problems running Newsleecher in Vista even as an Administrator-level user. If you have problems, try running the application under XP compatibility mode.
1. Right click the Newsleecher icon and then left click "Properties."
2. Select the Compatibility tab.
3. Where it says "Compatibility mode", enable the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox.
4. Select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the drop box.
5. Where it says "Privilege Level", enable the "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox. _________________ Please be aware of and use the following pages...

| I have tried compatability mode. also with UAC off everything runs with admin rights (EDIT: the check box is grayed out). and as i said it will work for shorter periods of time, its after it runs for a while that it locks up. i dont think that could relate to permission issues. |

If it is locking up the computer hard then most likely NewsLeecher is taxing your system CPU or there is bad RAM and the computer is crashing.
Try downloading MemTest86+ and running it overnight. It will test all your RAM and in doing so will stress your CPU. If you get RAM errors or it locks up during the test then there is a hardware issue you need to resolve. _________________ Please be aware of and use the following pages...

Does it lock up if you don't overclock? _________________ Please be aware of and use the following pages...

| ok, set everything back to auto and defaults and it still does the same thing. it should also be noted that this computer worked fine with newsleecher at all settings while it was running XP 32bit. i have the xp load on another hdd i can boot to that and make sure it still works but i dont know why it wouldnt. |

for anyone thats curious, i fixed this issue. im not sure which problem it was because i ended up doing 2 things at once and it has worked ever since...
i have 8GB of ram so i had the page file down to 16mb, i set this back to 2GB, i think this would only have affected writing the crash dumps but it could have been the issue if newsleecher need it for a reason, however what i think was causing it...
norton ghost 14, not only because i like blaming norton for all kinds of problems but because i blame them because 99% of the time it is their fault. i uninstalled this and its worked without issue since then.
either way its working now. thanks for the help. |
