Thanks in advance.

You need to contact your news provider. That is your news server responding with that error message, not NL.

The low speeds and bouncing traffic could indicate your ISP is limiting your bandwidth. NTL appears to be owned by Virgin who we know restricts NNTP traffic on their network so it's likely that is the cause. Sometimes you can workaround these restrictions by using SSL if your news provider supports it. Unfortunately most UK ISP's are using traffic shaping technology on their network and NNTP traffic is usually the first "casualty" of those practices.

If you connect your computer directly to the modem and take the router out of the equation, you'll probably see the same results which means your ISP is probably the culprit.

there are no NNTP restrictions on the Virgin Media ex ntl service, alot of information im reading on here about the traffic shaping on VM is incorrect

VM restrict speeds only if you download over a certain amount between 4pm and 9pm and certain traffic isnt filtered, it is a complete speed throttle on any port and even using SSL will not bypass this

slow speeds at other times of the day wil be down the over subscription of the ubr that the person is on, it is well known that the ubrs are overloaded in certain areas

I accept what is said as true, but why do so many people have to ask the question in the first place?

The answer is in how NewsLeecher is sold to you
First there is the free trial, which is fully functional, and everything works OK
What they don’t tell you is when you buy the full product, you will also need to buy 0r rent into a Usenet Service

If a Usenet Service can be included as part of the Trial Bungle along with NewsLeecher, Why can't they put up the price of NewsLeecher to incorporate Usenet service?

I have upgraded to a Paid for package, but I have no idea how to Get a Usenet Service
I asked support how to connect to Usenet Service.
They replied with the answer:

"You need to sign up with a news provider to get access to a news server.
We do not provide access to a server. We only provide the client
program to access Usenet news servers"

What does that mean?
This is obviously one of those answers that were originally in Chinese and then translated into English, by a Dutchman

Some ISPs offer free or discounted access to a news server. Check with your ISP about Usenet access. Though ISP servers are usually very poor quality (low article retention and poor article completion) they are enough to get you going.

For pay news servers, we recommend www.newshosting.com and www.giganews.com. Here are a couple of Usenet review sites if you want to research others.

Hello,

I have a problem here and going crazy about it.

Newsleecher connects but the status bars freeze at 'downloading article', there is no progression.

I tried...
Going for an older version of Newsleecher
Going for the new 3.95 beta 2 (unnoficial test)
Even another newsreader (alt.binz)

No way to download, the problem seemed to have resolved itself some hours ago but I got a ton of uncomplete parts (22 days old, the freshness of the datas are not in question).

I'm using Newshosting, and as anti-virus AVG

The catch is I just changed modem (the old one died of old age) for the same model, nothing else, and now... can't download.

Please help Crying or Very sad

It sounds like something in the new router is blocking the traffic or causing corruption. Log into the router and turn off antivirus or firewall options.

Thanks for the reply, but you know what ?
The second after I purchased a 3-days usenetservers trial to see if by any chance newshosting was the problem, all went back in order O_o

Now my lovely duo newshosting / newsleecher is back as good as ever.

DO NOT COMPUTE O_o
...but it works, good to me.

Thanks again.

PS. The only thing I did was try a forced route with usenetservers and cancel that 5 minutes later.

Dear all,

I'm experiencing big troubles with NewsLeecher 3.9 final since yesterday. After successful authentication to my news ISP (GigaNews) it continues downloading with the queue, however stops after a few seconds and then disconnects after a while with a timeout error. When I then close NewsLeecher, the internet connection is corrupted, so that I cannot access any webpage or receive emails.

I also use another newsreader (NewsRover), that works without problems - this seems to suggest that the problem is caused by NewsLeecher rather than by GigaNews or Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Cyana
