It's loading the news page just fine... so the error window contradicts itself.
I just installed 3.5b1 and that error was the first thing when I loaded it up.
Tried restarts, alt. SS port, etc... nada.
Was just using 2.3 (downgraded from 3.0 final... article corruption issues).
Guess i'll have to downgrade again?
Remember though Spiril: my encoding is set to Japanese (thought that bug was squashed though, since I can load the news page within the program?)

Guess I'll be downgrading yet again.

Spiril.. hate to beat a dead horse..
but, I changed my region to English for Unicode
and SuperSearch works again.
So the news page's URL is not unicode sensitive and works for any encoding, but now the SuperSearch changes between v3.0 and v3.5b1 have made it non-unicode friendly again.
Again, I have to run my OS in Japanese Unicode format (being in Japan and all and using many programs for work that are in Japanese).
Please help on this one. Again, it is confirmed to be a 100% Region problem |

| I added it to v3.5's known bugs list, so hopefully it'll be fixed soon. |

considering this seems to be all server-side AFAIK, I'm surprised this hasn't been fixed yet.
Here's hoping. |

I wanted to add in a really odd one-time occurence bug that can be reproduced regarding this.
1) encoding set to Japanese
2) load Newsleecher, fails to connect to supersearch
3) Set encoding to English, reboot
4) load Newsleecher, connects to supersearch fine
5) Set encoding back to Japanese, reboot
6) Load Newsleecher, connects to Supersearch just fine (despite encoding being set to Japanese)
7) Close Newleecher
8) Load Newsleecher again, fails to connect to supersearch
This makes me go into the area of "is it a cache thing as well?"
I mean, it works one time after switching the language back to Japanese, but fails if reloaded in the same Windows session.
Spiril, I would love to think you are going to fix this in Beta 3. |

Let' see... first posted about on November 30 2005...
License = 1 year plus SuperSearch... Approaching 3 months now (and 3 subsiquent beta releases) with not even one comment by the author on whether this has taken issue.
How can one even contemplate renewing a license when 3 months of a year goes by without any comment at all? I've tried PMs... keep trying to update threads... proven how to recreate this bug... and it seems like nothing is even being acknowledged.
Spiril, last time this happened you assisted me quite well with a small beta to test out. Is that possible this time? At this point I need to be able to use Japanese encoding.
Notice the odd character next to "Copyright" in the log window? Perhaps that can help in some way I don't know.
Also, when viewing the source of the "news page" in Beta 4, this is seen:

<body style="margin:0px 0px;" bgcol=#efefef background=/gfx/background.gif casVar="ssIP=70.86.176.98ァssPort_v3=119ァssRet=80ァss_GenIP=70.86.176.98ァss_GenP1=119ァss_GenP2=23ァss_ImgIP=70.86.176.98ァss_ImgP1=119ァss_ImgP2=23ァss_AudIP=70.86.176.98ァss_AudP1=119ァss_AudP2=23">

Now between every variable is a Katakana " "
Last time this same variable symbol caused the problems.
When I try to edit this post after originally posting it, the "A" changes to "& #65383 ;" (remove spaces)
Spiril.. I believe this is the code/character that needs to be changed!
Update: When switched back to English encoding, the above character becomes a "§. This is the exact character that caused a problem last time. Why did you switch back to it? |

Argh, stupid katakana!
Anyway, I'm working on a fix for the prob at the moment. The new fix should take solid care of the problem so it won't reappear in a future release.
Enzo,
I'll send you a test when it's ready, ok? _________________

I appreciate it man. I know when the attention is brought you do fix it. I knew I could track it down. I figured it was a bad character, but last time it happened the entire news page wouldn't load.
So this time I was really lost.. but then I said "hey, can you view the source?"
Da-dum!
I'm sure for other operating system languages a similar thing happens. I just don't feel like installing "Chinese Windows" to test |
