NewsLeecher To-Do List
----------------------------------------------------------------
Note: The features mentioned below are shown in no specific
order. They are on the to-list because they will be
implemented into future versions of NewsLeecher. Which
versions are still uncertain.
----------------------------------------------------------------
* Option to keep downloaded / failed articles in the "download
queue".
* Plug-In / Scripting support.
* Automatic RAR / PAR2 handling and extraction
* Detailed user configurable logging system.
* Check for new newsgroups without redownloading entire
grouplist.
* A new "only show highlighted articles" filter
* Combine articles with, almost, same subject for easier
overview
* Receive custom range of group headers
* Support for non transparent proxys / firewalls.
* "Detect breaks" feature. Ability to check if there are
missing parts in specific cached articles.
* Crosspost detective. Find out which groups specific
articles have been crossposted to.
* Posting system with yEnc/uuEncode compliant binary support.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Added but needs improvement
* Virtual groups. Combine many groups into one big virtual group.
Remove duplicates
* Split header fetching between multiple bots.
Multiple bots downloading for a single group
----------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding bandwidth throttling, This feature might be a bit of a pain to implement, but equally useful to me would be a timer based pause. I often pause long downloads to get work done on my connection only to discover the next day that I forgot to unpause the download. It would be nice to be able to either pause for 2 hours, or pause until some set time, and this seems like it would be easier to implement.
On bandwidth throttling, it would be nice to be able to set this based on time, so that I throttle back during the day, and unleash the download at night.
Thanks!

until its implemented you could just use Netlimiter ... i'd download v1.3 though.. it can do just what you want which scheduling times and all that... and it will give Spiril more time to implement other features |

Hi,
are there any plans yet to allow you to browse a group as nl is d-loading headers from another? this seems like a no-brainer to me. it was a great feature in power grab, you could be browsing cd.image, while scanning dvdr.... TIA, Nell |

Version 2.5 will allow that.
Check the roadmap here:

| How about a feature to auto-update headers of newsgroups that are subscribed to? |

I think the most important feature we need right now is header filtering. The amount of SPAM being posted to Usenet is getting unbearable and Subject and Poster filters are not effective. I tried to use nfilter but it's old and doesn't want to install under XP (I think the downloads are F'd). The FAQ has a lot of useful information that Spiril could use to help implement this.
If anyone has another option please let us know so we can have something until this is implemented.
Thanx for an otherwise great program,
David |

I like my article lists sorted by Subject. Whenever I do an update or switch groups, I have to re-click the Subject header column. It's not THAT much work, but it's one more repetitive thing to do. Can you make the article sort preference "sticky", perhaps even sort-on-the-fly?
(BTW - I've been a registered user since last November. Excellent program!) |

Under options->interface checking the "auto sort after header retrieval" checkbox should do what you want. |

Yeah, I was just about to buy NewsLeecher when I had 1 day left from the trial and then suddenly all the headers disappeared. I'm just looking forward to seeing this bug fixed! Then I can order NewsLeecher. Thnkz |

What you've described and what you've quoted are two different issues.

Any chance any of the following will make it in to a version prior to 2.5?
* Option to keep downloaded / failed articles in the "download
queue".
* Automatic RAR / PAR2 handling and extraction
* Make downloaded file combination code multithreaded to
prevent freezes.
Or
* Added option to autodelete downloads that match a previous files size and hash (Using MD5 or SHA)?
* Autoleech every file that matches a list of configured masks.
Those are the only features I really care about, don't really care about the 2.5+ features at all really. |
