|
|
| Is there an estimated time on when beta 13 will be released. Many people are looking forward to this release and are currently looking at other newsreaders temporarily. So before we go out and buy something else, and then have beta 13 come out the day after, it would be useful to know how long it will be before it is released. |

Thats because hes hard at work on the program instead of wasting time in the forum Which is what I would rather see. A while ago he said it should be out in a week or so I guess all we can do is wait. _________________ - Icefreez |

With all due respect IceFreez, that's bullshit.
It would take 5 minutes for spiril to respond to the forum.
Even if he spent 1 minute writing a post on how work is progressing it would be something.
At the moment this product has no support at all, and hearing from the author every two weeks when people have PAID him, is simply not good enough. |

I have to agree with this. While NBPro isn't exactly everything I want in a newsreader, you never have to wait long to get a response from the developer. If you've ever been on that forum you also know that Quade has a day job plus a wife. So, you could say he has three full time jobs. He still finds time to answer questions everyday though.
Sometimes I wonder why I bother with newsleecher, then I remember that fills only option. When NBPro has that I probably won't be using NL anymore. Unfortunately it's going to be awhile for that.
I don't expect anyone to bow down and kiss my feet, but at the same time I don't think an update every day or two is too much to ask. At this point I'd be happy with once a week. I'm beginning to think maybe he went to the MS school of business, release software that doesn't function as intended, charge money for it, then don't support it very well. Oh well, at least he calls a beta a beta. MS calls it Windows. _________________ (c) 2003 No one in particular |

| I agree that if someone is selling (beta) software, he should at least give some support. It has been exactly two weeks now since we heard of Spiril, and that's just a bit too long I think. |

I don't mean to be rude, but, could it be that he should notify paying customers that they will receive no support while he is on his nice long deserved vacation. If he can't do that he should find someone to field support questions while he's away. And maybe find a new hosting provider for this site while he's at it. Whoever he's using now sucks bad. Really bad. _________________ (c) 2003 No one in particular |

| It's funny, this feels just like what happened with the Zeonews project. The author of that program would also disappear for weeks at a time without a word. He didn't seem to like dealing with the users or supporting the program. Eventually I guess he just became so fed up with it that he discontinued development. I hope that doesn't happen here. At least with Zeonews he hadn't collected any money for the product yet. I'm starting to question my purchase of Newsleecher. Beta12 is so buggy for me I'm thinking of going back to BNR2 or even Zeonews until things become more stable (if ever). |

As posted in the other sub-forum:
Alright, just to clear things up, I just received a reply to an e-mail I sent to Spiril. He's been *very* busy setting up new things for himself, and unfortunately that is taking all his time at the moment. That is mostly because he's starting something up though. So in the near future that will take a lot less time, and he will then devote a lot of his time to NL again, especially to try and kill as much bugs as possible in a short amount of time.
Hope this clarifies things a bit. |

That's nice to know Gregoor.
Still Spiril should know it'd be wiser to post information like this in a little note on the board. That would calm people down a lot and it'd only take him a minute to do that.
I don't mind waiting for next beta but I prefer being informed about delays, espacially if there were posts before saying "beta 13 out in a week" - 3 weeks ago...
Cheers

Well that's discouraging. My trial period has long since run out. Guess I will have to wait. |

Agree about that, would indeed be nicer that way. But at least we know more for now |
