If you mean UseNetServer, indirect it is.

Also, are you finding that pausing the 3 connections helps?
No, it doesn't

What av, firewall are you using? Is you using a router?
No AV, ZoneAlarm.

Try changing the server priority of one of your two servers to priority 2, so that you will now have a priority 1 server and a priority 2 server.
I changed that now.

You probably don't need the "Send Group command" enabled, but maybe your servers need this. Have you experienced article not found errors with this option disabled?
Not that I recall.

It is possible that cache/NL data file corruption is a problem. You can do a fresh, clean install to a different directory/drive. Rename your current NL directory first.
Had tried that severall times allready without result.

Not sure yet if this applies to your problem, but have you checked out the 98% bug thread?
The 98% problem is what you could call it and I was to post the details in that one but it said "Giganews ONLY". And they are talking about hardware there - the problem isn't hardware related since the part completes ok on the other server.

Disable ZoneAlarm.
Did changing priorities help?
Disable the send group command.

I changed the priority - server 1, prio 1 and server 2, prio 2.
I also disabled the Send Group command.

Nite that it doesn't get stuck on the last part. In the last case it was stuck on part 7/79.
I don't want to disable ZoneAlarm 'cause I'd then be unprotected but I don't really think that causes it. I think it could be the cause if my connection would completely hang. But in this case it's a small part and it occurs on the same part no matter how many times it retries.
Note also me mentioning that if I time it right, it's donwloaded succesfully from the other server. It would be a nice work-around if nl had a function where one could force to download the stuck part from the other server.

I saw someone mentioning in one of the other discussion thread that it would be helpful if more detailed info was logged by nl. I did this severall times in my own applications if I had something weird going on.

Hello all with the same problem,

I also was irritated with this problem and looking at this thread history it is taking an unacceptable time for the programmers to solve this nuisant bug. (Thread start somewhere in 2003 !! -> SORRY SPIRIL I DIDN'T LOOK Shocked CORRECTLY BUT EVEN 05-11-2004 IS A LONG TIME....)
I am using Newsleecher on a trial basis and I think it has got an enormous potential especially due to the small memory footprint making it an agile program, now just fix this bug in the softwarecode and I would be happy to purchase such a program with the SS availability.
A decode function as through the coming solution integrated in the program is not the final answer though as the program should just park incomplete files downloaded in the specified directory by the user automatically even when 'auto downloading' via NZB files or the SS function. (The only instant I do not have this problem is when I am manually downloading items via the header update function).

Ok, here is what you should do to temporarily (I hope mr. coder) solve the problem. It works but is a little bit of a manual job defeating the NZB and SS purpose in my opinion.

1. Download and install (anywhere) the program yenc32 via the following link:

http://www.yenc32.com/download.php

2. After noticing forementioned problem with a download leave NL on otherwise it will empty its temporary files directory (which is where the files are temporarily saved with an unidentifiable name...)

3. Go to the directory where you installed NL then subsequently click data, temp and the {parts} folders where you find the temporary files each in a separate folder

4. Click on the first folder and then click on the folder called raw, this contains one of the downloaded incomplete files (rar..).
What you see is all separate lines of the rar file

5. With Ctrl-A select all the files in the raw folder and then right click the mouse and select the option ydecode with yenc32. A yenc32 window will pop up then specify the download directory you want your incomplete file saved to and press OK

6. The incomplete file should now be in the specified folder.

7. Sad to say but until the NL programmers remove this bug (improve the pogram) you have to do this for every incomplete file you have received via the NZB or SS option where the Download Queue status has gone to Queued...

Please fix this problem quickly because it is a shame about your otherwise nice newsprogram!!

Cool Dreamwolf

Dreamwolf,

Thanks for the tip. At least I'm now able to save the hanging files.

To the nl developer(s):

It 's still rather anoying 'cause when it happens to 8 files/parts then it holds up the whole queue from being downloaded.

I'm also a bit dissapointed that as a paying customer there hasn't been a single reply from Spiral while this is, I and others, a rather serious problem.

Please give a reply to know that you're looking into this problem, ok? At least I then know that I'm not talking to a wall..

Thanks!

I never had this problem before I installed a router on my LAN. After thinking about it for a while I took a shot and twiddled with the MTU setting on the router. It fixed the problem.

I don't know what mechanism NewsLeecher is using to read from a socket, but perhaps it is not reading the entire content and is left waiting in some instances? Maybe the stream isn't flushed? I dunno.. Anywho, changing my MTU from 1500 to 1492 (pretty much an arbitrary value) seems to have fixed it. I have Comcast cable service and a paid GigaNews account.

This is why I don't think it's actually a firewall/router/modem problem but more how NL handles that part on that server..

Ok, so I was wrong. Screwing with the MTU moved the problem around to other files, but it still happens. I decided to NAT through another computer instead of using the router and the problem remains. The only way to get NewsLeecher to work, it seems, is to have it run on the machine that has a direct connection to the internet. A real IP address, etc... This seems like it is fairly consistent. Add some type of NAT (home broadband router, computer using Internet Connection Sharing) and the problem appears. Doesn't seem to me like it should really be so hard to track down.

Spiril,

Thanks for replying! That's all I wanted to know - that it has your attention Very Happy

Is it related to the problems in the other big threads?

Were you able to reproduce the prob?

Can I do something for you to get more info on it? Maybe a debug version of NL that has extended logging or something?

I would be glad to help you nailing this down (not only because that would solve my problem).

I just started having this problem today. I have not installed any new software or hardware so I don't know what's causing it. I have tried every single thing that was suggested in this thread but still no go.

Below is what it keeps telling me in a popup:
--------
Bug Data1:
2134as(2): "00078" - "C:\Program Files\NewsLeecher\data\temp\{parts}\1408854902\raw\" - FE: True

Bug Data2:
I/O error 112

Check that your C: drive (or whatever drive NL is installed on) has enough free space available. We've seen some similar errors like that lately caused by not enough free space.

Thanks that solved the problem. After clearing some space on my HDD it started working again. I had no idea that that was the cause of the hanging due to the fact that I dl to my second drive and that one had plenty of space. I'll be more careful to check that *both* drives have enough space from now on. Smile

I'm using the trial version too, but I really like this prog.
Too bad for this BUG. I get it often and I am using +/- 10 different servers.

My solution:
I join the files in the .BIN instead. These are allready yenc decoded. (there are several progs to do this...) Sometimes a few files are missing in the dir. That doesn't bother me, since par2 came down from heaven... Wink

I would be delighted if the programmers would just make an "ENCODE" Arrow button, so I can manually choose to save a 99% file from within NL to the right dir, with the right name...
