is the server correctly configured (can you normally download from it without any problems)?
also turn on detailed logging in the options menu and see what the log says when this happens. _________________ Forum's Grammar Nazi:

Try installing NL in a different directory/drive. Do not use the same cache (or queue). See if you still get these memory errors. Is there any possiblitly that you are actually out of memory or that there is some bad memory?
I would try the new install first.

Want to see an out of memory error? Subscribe to alt.binaries.nl, download the entire range of headers from that group using giganews as header server. When you get the error tell me if you are actually out of memory. Anyway if you would do this and it turns out you get the error then i think it would resolve this error as being a myth.
Lips NL always seems to work perfectly for you no matter what! (other than the miniscule yenc decode error)
Anyway the out of memory error seems to be a result of either a huge download queue and/or a huge header download, in my case i've only seen it with header downloads, most frequently with alt.binaries.nl with giganews as header server. I grew sick of that group and a bunch of the other large groups and now i don't see the problem.
Anyway heres the sticky for the out of memory error http://www.newsleecher.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1164
Unfortunately most people there have had the error with header downloads, but i've also heard about others who have seen it by having a huge download queue. |

| i've had the out of memory error with a huge download queue. just after i got NL, i wanted to see what it could do so i queued up every single post in a porn picture group. there was about 8000 files queued up. i would keep getting the error until i deleted files and got the queue down to about 1000 files. anything beyond that would cause the error. |

For me, the out of Memory error come from download queue.. am not sure if that is consider big, but i have 3000 files in queue.. NL would freeze because of that error box pop up and it take up 100% of my CPU resource so i have to kill NL with task management...this happen every night when i leave NL to download overnight without even loading the Header cache..anyway.. i know this is some kinda bug in NL, not my memory problem.. i tested my memory and it was good...BTW when i have NL minimize to system tray.. it still suck up 23% CPU resource.. i installed NB pro, and check that out... it only used 2-4%... I was going to switch to NB pro, but i got use to NL already and don't want to go learn new stuff... i can still live with that problem for now.. but i still dont' get why my download hanged on a 19 days old file with newshosting.. strange. |

Yes i would think a queue of 3000 is big, i don't think mine has ever been bigger than 1000. I download mostly big files, 50mb split rar archives of dvd's. Most i have had queued is maybe 4 dvd's at once and maybe a few archives from other groups but even that would make my queue at 500 or less.
Unless all of the files are tiny or you have a very fast download speed and can actually download all of that overnight, consider exporting half of the queue to nzb then importing the next day.
From what i've heard in this thread, the out of memory error is caused by greed (in the case of the download queue) |

| most of my files are like 10mb or smaller.. my download speed is at 350k and if the download is doing what is suppose to be, should be finish in about 24hours or so,, but i never get a chance to finish cause it keep on freezing that is why the number of queue go up so much to 3000. |

Woooo...... where did that come from? How many times do I mention that problems can be corrupt cache or queue. Including the part that you left out of quote from my original post. Why do you think that I said "Do not use the same cache (or queue)."? I believe many problems are caused by corrupt cache/queue databases in other clients. Yes, download 20 gb in the queue while at the same time download 15 million headers, just might cause some problems.
I've also said that I don't use the dump groups and don't dl millions of headers a day. So, yes. I don't see the corrupt cache problems that some of you are seeing. Hey, you got a problem with that.....
I've also been very vocal about things that I believe are missing from NL.
Hey, I'm not the only one does not get the 98% bug with Giganews. Never said that much of the problem wasn't NL's (in most cases).
Should it really not be asked if someone actually does have memory errors? I guess I have to be much more blunt (like now).

unless you the poster is retarded... 4 dvd's with 15 MB files (instant 1300 item queue + 15%par2 blocks = almost 2000 items). some people make me sad
on a side note, i had ~90GB queued up a few days ago (about 4000 items ), which is by far the largest queue i've ever had (gotta love giganews and 55 day retention ), that combined with downloading a bunch of headers (not that much though, never had more than a million) and playing half life 2 and i never got an out of memory error ( 1GB ram, no pagefile)
ooc, the out of memory errors that occur, are those newsleecher errors or do they come from windows?
also, i hope the OP isn't comparing newsleecher's cpu/memory usage with a gigantic queue and a large group loaded to an empty nbp, wouldn't really be a good comparison. _________________ Forum's Grammar Nazi:

I've always seen the standard NL Bug/Error window with the Out of Memory error code |

Hehe, i didn't mean to be rude or anything it was meant as a challenge from me to you
Since you seem to be quite clever maybe you could deduce something from this that others have not.

Whats even more rare is to download 4 dvd's from the same retarded poster
And yeah its a NL bug window.
It could be that a bigger page file will help with this one, but untill recently i've always had 1gb swap file (+ ram 1gb ddr).
How do you get windoze to run with no page file? I didn't think that was possible. I mean its possible to set no page file, but after you reboot, windows automatically makes an emergency page file, that expands itself as its needed. So if there is some other way please tell! |

the best part is when you open the par2 files and discover that there's a blocksize of almost 10MB, that really made me question my own sanity

you're right, windows is unable to run without a pagefile, and if you set it to no pagefile it'll still use one (although i never found where it was located...).
i monitored it's size for a while though, and it hardly ever changed (only a few MB). also i've never noticed the hard drive being accessed when it shouldn't. so basically i'm just deluding myself in thinking i have no pagefile; i don't notice it, so it's not there
i have done some pretty extensive tweaking in the services and a bit of registry editting, so it's possible i broke something, which results in windows not using my pagefile... _________________ Forum's Grammar Nazi:

Hey, not a bad rant huh? (just some pathetic quote formatting that I'll edit). Oh, and thanks for the compliment. And we do seem to agree about a bad cache/queue.
