i have been holding off due to the fact that i am well adapted to another reader, however nl will now be my reader of choice.

i LOVE the alpha transparency some of the icons now, any chance you will apply this technique to the icons in the toolbar, that would REALLY make newsleecher look awesome....

Keep up the good work.

Spiril,

There is still only one thing holding me back from buying this software and that is the "Unable to authenticate" problem. I can only use 3 threads max at the moment on usenetservers.com where other readers let me use at least 4 (I think it might even be 5 or 6 not 100% sure).

If I try to use more then 3 threads in newsleecher I get the dreaded "Unable to authenticate" message.

Could you confirm this will be fixed before 2.0 goes final? I really want to buy this software but that is holding me back.

Thanks

i'm using usenetserver with 8 connections, and have no problems whatsoever.
you can either connect with 8 connections to news.usenetserver.com, or with 4 connections to both nntp1 AND nntp2.usenetserver.com (which i found to be a bit better)

I too am having auth errors, with only 3 threads going, and i am allowed 4.

I have cross tested with my other reader without any error.

This is the only problem keeping me from pushing the button, and ordering.

Poor Lips, trys to do the good thing by giving some compliments and you guys invade with your bugs/complaints. How about taking it to a thread of your own???

Yeah, what he said. Wink
Also, STFF, this topic as been discussed and specifically about authentication and UNS. So, there are other threads about this.

"Leech Specify is excellent"

I can't agree...

I like to download new things to the folder that I specify (e.g.: D:\Downloads\Movies
D:\Downloads\Pictures
etc.

Ok, now you're getting the new headers of a group and imagine that there is something you want but the posting is not finished (maybe only the half of the files are finished till now). With Beta 5 I "Leech specify first" them Smile and I selected (and created) the appropriate folder for it. When I updated the group headers and new files for this release came in it was more than easy (with Beta 5) to send them to the same folder as the old ones. Just "Leech specify first" and voilá I automatically got the folder window with the last folder selected.

This behavior is not possible with Beta 6 anymore because it always fills in the group folder name and I always have to mark all the new files in den download queue and change the download folder from there.

Hoping to get the Beta 5 behavior back...

I can't express in words my dislike for the new "Leech specifiy"

I use NL on my C: drive and download to my D: drive (250gb) inside a "Movies" folder.

Prior to B6 I'd say leech specify, it would default to the last folder , and if it was something new, I'd go up one level and create a new folder.

Now I have to BROWSE EVERY SINGLE TIME, not to mention ensuring that I don't use the NL supplied folder name.

Please go back to the way it was or provide some sort of option to use either format. NL is becoming like Microsoft

yes I have read the other threads with many other people experiencing this same problem. Unfourtauntely none of the other threads gave any indication of whether it will be fixed any time soon.

I will register when this bug is fixed.

Elmer - Spiril did say that there changes made to the feature.
From a previous post in this thread:

Spiril wrote:
Actually, I implemented the feature quite fast to be honest. And I didn't think the functionality all through. I'll make sure the next beta release will implement the best of 'leech specify' from beta 5 and beta 6. (basically I'll just putin another browse button, as suggested, and a checkbox to remember the last used 'leech specify' path)

Do these changes sound like they would be of value? I'm still for it. I understand what you miss about going directly to the default folder. I find adding a new folder to be much nicer in the new version. And the planned additions might just (hopefully will) make this an excellent feature. I guess we'll have to wait for the next beta.

I personally hate the new downloadscreen. Yet another "detour" (aint sure how to say it but ill explain what I mean). When i want to lower the threats i first need to disconnect, then go to the Usenet manager and the properties. I dont see a reason why it cant be more direct and have 2 buttons near the download threaths like Newsbin. I cant even enter the properties without disconnecting. Not even to look at the options (mainly to see my username so i can copy it).

Or another thing: like the leech specify, why aint it in the rightmouse menu and have leech specify first in a submenu under that (same as leech, leech pause and leech smart ofcourse).

Or why not subscripe with dubble clicking or by selecting a vink in front of the group instead of needing to rightclick and then say subscripe.

I know its all small things but this is what annoys me the most of Newsleecher besides the fact Newsleecher gives lot of errors about "memory problems" (before i tried Newsleecher i used Newsbin where a lot of the things are more direct).
