Wonder if we'll be seeing a Windows 8 'Metro' app version of Newsleecher in the future? Very Happy

I'm running the 64 bit version of Windows 8 CP and for the most part, Newsleecher runs fine on the Desktop... wonder if anyone else is trying Windows 8 and running Newsleecher?

Windows 8 is very similiar to 7 so I'd be surprised if newsleecher didn#'t work properly.

A metro version would be nice but it would be best if Spiril focussd on other things first. Metro apps in their main essence are not really suited to things like newsleecher.

Hi... thanks for the reply. I've only just spotted it (site has only just come back up after being down for a little while).

Yes, Windows 8, particularly the desktop side of things is very much like Windows 7 but after running Newsleecher (latest beta) in the Windows 8 desktop, there are some issues that need fixing before it works properly.

Like I said in another thread on these forums, it hardly seems worth mentioning them at the moment given the low levels of interest in the Newsleecher forum but I do think that the few issues I've noticed while running Newsleecher in Windows 8 could be easily fixed by the Spiril.

With regards a 'Metro' style app version of Newsleecher, I think that was more a tongue in cheek request by me but who knows, maybe the Newsleecher team have some up and coming stuff they have in mind for future versions of Newsleecher... sure hope so as I'm a big fan of Newsleecher and I'd hate to see Newsleecher just fade away for lack of support and interest.

Cheers... thanks again for the reply Smile

No prob.

What features are you running into with the standard Windows 8 desktop? I'm sure Spril would welcome any bug reports of Windows 8 so he can get sorting them, given the consumer preview is very close to the RTM

Hi ... thanks again for the reply (the forum is still a little flakey... will have to watch for dupes Very Happy )

Well, I ran Windows 8 CP for about a month on my main machine, plus I also ran it on a couple of other desktop PC's and a Laptop.

For the most part, Newsleecher ran fine but the most annoying problem was that once you'd run Newsleecher once in a session, it did not close down properly and any attempt to start Newsleecher again would not work.

Going into task manager, you could see that Newsleecher was still running. Doing a forced stop would then allow you to start up Newsleecher and run the program again.

The other little niggles were that status info was not being displayed properly... no big deal, just that it's nice to see how much is in the download queue and approximately how long is left for the download(s) to run.

As I said in my original posting about these problems, they are not show stoppers and I'm sure that they are pretty minor bugs and I'm confident that Spiril can fix them Wink

If the rumours are correct, then the Release Candidate of WIndows 8, or whatever it's going to be called this time, will be out sometime soon (end of May, beginning of June is what is being reported) and I'll most likely give that a go on my computers when it's available.

I like what I've seen so far of Windows 8 and if anything, it feels pretty fast (Windows 7 aint slow though) so it would be nice if the little bugs in Newsleecher, while it's running Windows 8, could be sorted out... fingers crossed Smile

Cheers
