Updated to 5 beta 6 recently and immediately I started getting blue screen crashes, or if there's no blue screen crash, newsleecher locks up and machine must be rebooted.
I have emailed giganews to ask if they had been having issues with their servers. No issues. Typically when the problem occurs I am running with no speed limit. If I limit the speed to around 25% of max, then I don't have the issue, but... I'm not paying giganews this much money for a 250k connection and I didn't pay newsleecher for a hobbled prog. I typically run between 2.5 - 3MB per second. I reverted to an earlier version of newsleecher but now that version is acting the same. I run a download for 10-15 minutes then either a bluescreen or a hard crash occurs. This now happens consistently and is very frustrating and it began with an the installation of 5 beta 6. Seems to be a speed issue of some kind. I have 50 connections with my giganews acct. Could it be that I'm downloading too fast? This is not a wimpy machine by any stretch, I'm saving to the local drive and the local hard drive is top-notch and super speedy so that shouldn't be an issue. It's only newsleecher that has the problem.
Running AMD Phenom Quad core, 8 gig ram, Win 7 Home, fully updated, cable connection at 15 mbps, Cisco Linksys E3000 router. There is nothing with the machine that should be causing any trouble. It's fully virii scanned and there are no trojan or spyware issues. No other software was installed prior to or afterward.
What's the going on here? Any ideas anyone? |

What is the blue screen message or stop code? Have you Googled it?
It could be a conflicting driver for your network card. NewsLeecher will often put a big load on a network card and if the driver is faulty or has a memory leak, it can crash it very quickly. _________________ Please be aware of and use the following pages...

| No actually I haven't googled it. I will next time it happens. As for the NIC driver, it's the latest version and there were no issues before, so it seems it's more likely something with newsleecher itself. |

I have contacted Newsleecher support twice now...no response. And, believe me, I'm no newbie when it comes to computers and programming.
After installing 5 beta 6, I
immediately began having "blue screens" and
program lockups. After viewing the logs, there are apparently issues with Giganews Accelerator dropping connections and being unable to reestablish them, and, additionally problems with Newsleecher being unable to "process" the connection data flowing to it from Giganews Accelerator.
I contacted Giganews about the
problem and was told there were no problems with their
servers. I contacted Newsleecher support services and got
no response whatsoever. I then returned to
Giganews and asked again. I was then told there
was an "issue" with the Giganews Accelerator
software and that Newsleecher could not handle
header compression and that I should turn it off - which I did.
The problem persisted. I contacted Giganews again
and was told that, apparently Newsleecher will now
not operate properly with Giganews services unless I used
the standard server connection. After switching to
a standard connection, Newsleecher connects, but
stalls out constantly and will not complete header
updates or downloads - it just stalls out. After
again contacting Giganews, I was told, basically,
"tough luck" and that they weren't going to
support "an obvious Newsleecher issue."
What?! Not only that, but they went on to say that I should use their proprietary newsreader Mimo, instead. Which kinda sucks, BTW. It's kind've clunky to use, it's not laid out well and it's written in JAVA which is fine, but is a high-level, slow-running language. Why any prog other than online web apps are written in Java, I don't know, but...
If Newsleecher is not going to operate with one of
the biggest Usenet providers on the planet and
they're not going to respond to requests for
support of a REAL issue as opposed to someone just not knowing which box to checkmark or button to click, THEN I WANT MY MONEY
BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reverting to previous version
installs of Newsleecher does not work. If the
Newsleecher and Giganews can't cooperate on a
basic level, then I need to have my payment to
Newsleecher prorated and the remainder returned to
me. If I can't use it, it's useless to me. Would Newsleecher and Giganews please get together and sort this out?
Anyone have any ideas out there? |

Have you tried not using the Giganews accelerator? NewsLeecher has header compression support built-in so you don't need to use that program anymore.
If using the accelerator, you need to configure NewsLeecher to connect to the accelerator using standard port 119, SSL disabled, and header compression turned off. _________________ Please be aware of and use the following pages...
